The Hunger Games

This past Friday night, Abby, Holly, and I had a girls' night.
We went to dinner at Hyde Park Bar & Grill and then saw The Hunger Games on opening night.  Holly and Abby have read all 3 of the books and loved them, but I, on the other hand, have not read a single one.  I'll admit that I wasn't really sure if I would like the movie or not {the idea of kids fighting one another till there is only one survivor sounds horrible!}, but it was really good.  Both Holly and Abby said that I should read the book because it goes into a lot more detail - so one of these days when my life slows down and I find myself with more free time {cause it's going to happen one day, right?}, I plan to do just that.  But in the meantime, I'm already looking forward to the second movie.  Happy Hunger Games... and may the odds be ever in your favor. ;)

Thank you for your prayers...

Thanks so much for keeping Steve in your prayers today.  His surgery went well.  It lasted about 2.5 hours {which was a little longer than they thought it would take}, but the doctor told us that they were able to remove everything that they needed to, and we are extremely thankful for that.  He'll probably be in the hospital till then end of the week, but it's all downhill from here, so thank you for your prayers.

On a side note, the bluebonnets and yellow wildflowers along SH 130 are beautiful.  Ben's ready for them to mow them down {not because he hate flowers but because his windshield is covered in bugs every night when he gets home}, but I love them.  Springtime in Texas is the best!

Prayers for Steve

Please keep Steve in your prayers today as he is scheduled to have another part of his colon removed this morning at 7:30 a.m.  Please pray that the doctors are able to get everything that they need to and that Steve heals quickly and completely.

Happy {Belated} Birthday Audrey!

We went to dinner tonight at Cheddar's to celebrate Audrey's belated birthday.  The food was delicious, and it was so good to see everybody -- especially the birthday girl.
Audrey & James
 Nelson & Holly
 G & Mom
 Liz & Gerhart
Me & Ben
 Mom & Brenda
Happy {Belated} Birthday Audrey!  I know you didn't want the night to be all about you, but I'm so glad that your birthday brought all of us together.  We love you!

30th Annual Austin Music Awards

We went to the 30th Annual Austin Music Awards last week. Ben and Steve picked me up after work, and after a quick dinner at Which Wich, we walked over to the Austin Music Hall.
People watching along the streets of downtown Austin during SXSW is amazing.  However, I'm fairly certain that my dress pants and I were the ones that were the most out of place that night.

As for the Austin Music Awards, Wheeler Brothers dominated.
Best New Band went to...Wheeler Brothers.
Best Acoustic Guitar went to...Nolan Wheeler.
Best Bass went to...Tyler Wheeler.
Best Miscellaneous Instrument went to...A.J. Molyneaux {lap steel}.
And, if that weren't enough, Wheeler Brothers also came in third for Band of the Year.
Needless to say, we are so proud of them and all that they've accomplished over the past few years.
It's hard to believe that this is the same band that was playing cover songs at our wedding.  They've come so far!
My only wish was that they could have performed at the Austin Music Awards themselves.
Because they are SO much better than the ones that did.
Steve and I expected to see a lot more colorful mow-hawks that night, but instead, the audience was full of old hippies.  Our favorite was the lady with the tambourine and maracas.
She gave you no choice but to dance with her.

We ended up leaving before the night was over {and before Bruce Springsteen made his surprise appearance}, but it was still a pretty late night.  I think I finally ended up crawling into bed at about 1 o'clock in the morning {which made getting up for work a little rough}, but it was worth it.
Way to go, Wheeler Brothers!  We're so proud of you.

Happy 5th Birthday Annie!

Happy 5th birthday to the world's cutest puggle.
I wish we could have spent the whole day with you {& Bubbs}...
But we promise to make it up to you this weekend.
Happy birthday baby girl.  We love you!

The Highs & Lows of My Past Few Days

So I realized today that I haven't blogged in nearly 2 weeks.  Yikes!  The truth is -- the past couple of weeks have been crazy.  I really haven't done a whole lot other than work {unless you count laundry or picking up around the house}, and on the rare occasions that I have done something fun, I've been way too lazy to take any pictures.  This too shall pass, right?  I'm sure hoping so.  I have taken a few pictures on my phone over the past few days though, so in case any of my readers were thinking of jumping ship, here's a few highs and lows of the past few days to help hold you over until I have time for a real blog post.

High...sitting around Jason and Cheryl's kitchen table on Friday night after work till 11 o'clock that night.  Miles obviously didn't sit in the center of the table the whole night, but playing peek-a-boo with a paper plate and singing Itsy Bitsy Spider {with the hand motions} were some of the best parts.
Low...working all day on Saturday while a couple of guys installed a wall behind me.  I've since learned that nailing dry wall into metal studs with a nail gun is a pretty loud ordeal, but nothing messes with your concentration when you have a to-do list like mine. ;)
High...hanging my crosses in the front room.  It only took me 3 and a half years to finally get them up there, but who's counting?!
High...making and eating a homemade pizza complete with a homemade crust {obviously}.  It may not look pretty, but it tasted delicious!
Low...finding the remains of the peanut butter kiss cookies that Kyle made us before leaving for work this morning.  Apparently we left the plate a little too close to the edge of the kitchen table and a chair a little too pushed out.  I just hope Annie enjoyed them because she has a lot of walking to do to work those calories off.
High...leaving the office today when it was still light outside and driving in traffic that wasn't bumper-to-bumper.  I love daylight saving time and spring break!
And what post is complete without pictures of my babies?
Well, there you have it -- my highs and lows over the past few days.  Thanks for stopping in.  Hopefully one of these days I'll have time for a real blog post.  For all of our sakes. ;)
