Happy Halloween

We had a great time this evening sitting outside on the driveway and passing out candy with the Sotos.
I loved seeing all of the cute neighborhood kids dressed up, but Miles was definitely the cutest.
He was the most precious little monkey, but unfortunately, he wasn't too fond of his costume.
This was the best that we could get him to smile, and usually this baby is nothing but smiles.
After a few pictures and a little bit of trick-or-treating, we took it off, and life was suddenly much better. :)  Happy Halloween, everyone!  Be safe and have fun.

A "Just Me" Weekend

Ben went to Justin's bachelor party in New Orleans this weekend.  He had a great time hanging out with the guys, and although I did miss him, I had a wonderful time having the weekend to myself -- to do exactly what I wanted to do without worrying about anyone but me. :)

After I dropped Ben off at the airport on Friday, I went over to Jason and Cheryl's for dinner.  Cheryl had made shrimp scampi from scratch, and it was so amazing that I had three helpings.  I had a great time hanging out and catching up with them, and as always, I had lots of fun playing with Miles.  Unfortunately, he's no longer the least bit interested in being held or loved on, but he did have a great time kicking around the ball and getting into everything that he's not supposed to.  Haha -- where'd our baby go???

On Saturday morning, I met up with my running group for a 7-mile run, and then went to watch Holly row in the Pumpkin Head Regatta on Lady Bird Lake.  She rows with the Texas Rowing Club, and they won GOLD in the Women's Masters Eight with Cox.  Their form was great, and I am so proud of her and her boat!

It was really cold and windy that morning on the lake, so when I got home, I took a really hot shower and crawled into bed to warm up.  I originally planned to take just a 30-minute nap, but you know how that goes.  Two hours later, I finally got out of bed and headed over to Abby's house a little bit later.  Both Ben and Allen were out of town this weekend, which worked out perfectly.  We hung out at her house for a little bit before heading to Maudie's for dinner.  The migas were awesome, and then we did a little bit of shopping.  Abby scored some great deals at Old Navy, I bought some make-up, and then we headed back to her house to do a little bit of early Christmas shopping online.  The best part of the evening though was the fact that I scored two pairs of beautiful boots from Gregory's!
Gregory's is Abby's uncle's store.  He sells high-end shoes and clothes, and he's always sending Abby and her mom the most beautiful shoes.  These boots were originally intended for them, but because they are super narrow through the calf, they fit my bird legs perfectly!  I hate that they didn't work for Abby or Debbie, but I'm so glad that they thought of me.  They are definitely the nicest shoes I have ever owned, so don't be surprised if you see me in them everyday.  I can't wait to show them off!

This morning, I slept in and then spent most of the day picking up around the house and cleaning out the spare bedroom.  It's crazy to think that we've been in this house for over three years now, and we still have a junk room.  It's the room where we put everything that we don't have time to deal with at that particular moment in time, and it really got bad when I brought home all of my childhood belongings.  I got a lot done today, but I didn't completely finish, so I'll have to post before and after pictures later.  My mom and G also came over today to visit and to bring lunch.  It was good to see them, and of course, Annie and Amos loved it, too.  This evening, I took them on a long walk {a habit that we need to get back into now that it's cooled off}, and they have spent the rest of the evening snoozing.
Ben's plane gets in tonight, so I'm staying up so that I can pick him up.  He was originally supposed to get in at 9:55 tonight, but unfortunately, his flight out of New Orleans was delayed, which caused him to miss his connecting flight, so now he won't be getting in till 12:15 tonight.  I'm definitely going to be tired tomorrow, but it'll be worth it.  I can't wait to see him!

9 years ago today, this cutie and I became more than just friends.

And, yes, I kissed him first - but can you blame me?
Thanks for being my best friend, B.  I love you.

See Jane Run...Or Not

My alarm went off early this morning.  5 o'clock to be exact.  I had signed up to run the See Jane Run half marathon with Holly, Molly, and most of the ladies in my running group, so when I heard the sound of pouring rain OVER the sound of my alarm clock, I was pretty bummed.  I realize that Austin hasn't had a good rain in several months, but did it have to be today?  The timing could not have been worse.

Unfortunately, the race ended up being cancelled, but we didn't get word of that until we had already met up at one of the lady's houses in Mueller {since she lives less than 1/2 of a mile from what was supposed to be the start line}.  When the email came through saying that the race had been cancelled, that it would not be rescheduled, and that they would not be giving any refunds, we were all pretty disappointed -- but we decided to make the most of it.  Since most of us were already dressed alike in our new shirts and ready to run, it only took a little bit of peer pressure to convince the group to do a short run before eating our delicious potluck breakfast {3 miles in the cold rain wasn't bad, but I don't think I would have wanted to do much more than that}.  We spent the rest of the morning eating breakfast and sipping mimosas, and on the way home, we stopped by the Courtyard Marriott Downtown for the champagne reception and to pick up our chocolate.  All in all, it was a bummer that we didn't get to run the 13.1 miles {I never thought I'd ever same something so lame as that}, but we still had a good time, so I guess it wasn't a total loss.

Ben and I spent the rest of the day just relaxing around the house.  We watched a movie, and Annie and Amos spent most of their day under their fort.

Bubbs was pretty sick on Friday {so sick that Ben had to take him to the vet...and steam clean the carpet}, so it was good that he took it easy again today.
Tonight we had a delicious dinner -- steak, squash, and mashed potatoes, and while I was doing the dishes, Ben accidentally dropped his wedding ring into the couch.  He had to take the bottom of the couch apart in order to find it, but thankfully, I was able to stick my hand through a little opening and pull it out.
Ben said that I'd look back at this later and laugh, and although I know he's right, I'm just hoping that he one day kicks his bad habit of taking off his wedding ring and playing with it.  However, I do realize that if that's all I have to complain about that I have it pretty good. ;)

I can't believe another weekend is already over.  I know that I've said this before, but life is going by way too fast these days!

Gangster Bubbs

The past few days have been so busy that I really haven't had much time to blog {or even enough time to just stop and take a breath}, but this evening, I made it a point to sit out in the front yard with Cheryl and Miles for National Night Out.  Unfortunately, Ben and Jason both had to work late, but it was so nice to just sit, relax, catch up, and say "hi" to all of our neighbors that were out.  Afterwards, Ben and I went inside and spent some time with Annie and Amos {who may or may not feel just a little neglected these days}.  At one point, Ben tied his bandana around Bubb's head, and we couldn't decide if he looked more like a gangster or more like an old woman trying to keep her hair from being wind blown...
...but after seeing the picture, I've decided that he is definitely a gangster.  A very scared looking gangster, but a gangster nonetheless. ;)
