I've always been so thankful for everything that my mom {and now Ben's mom} does for me/us, but now that I'm a mom myself, I appreciate them even more. I'm not exaggerating when I say that we were blessed with the very best. Even in our thirties, our moms do more for us than just about anyone, and I know that our day-to-day lives would be so much harder {and a lot less fun} without them. I also love the fact that Jackson already loves his grandmothers as much as I love/loved mine. I am/was so lucky to have both Grandma and G in my life, and I remember how much I loved spending time with them, which is especially helpful to keep in mind every time that Jackson has a complete meltdown when he has to leave them but barely bats an eye when we're the ones that are leaving.
Last night, my dad and Patty came to town, and we took Grandma to dinner at Texas Land & Cattle. As you can imagine, Jackson's not big on fancy steak dinners, so he and Ben spent quite a bit of time letting him run around outside, but he did enjoy passing out the cards that we made together {I wrote them from him, and he decorated them with crayons and stickers} and was even nice enough to open their gifts for them, too.
My Mother's Day gift from my dad and Patty. Apparently they know the way to my heart, too.
Because why enjoy a nice steak dinner when you can chase wild turkeys in the parking lot instead?
And it was obvious from the short period of time that Jackson was inside that we don't get out much. Exhibit A: When the waitress brought out honey mustard with his chicken tenders, he hollered "queso!" Exhibit B: When I went to wipe his face with my cloth napkin, he gave me a very confused look and asked "wipe t-shirt?" And Exhibit C: When the group next to us was leaving and their chair legs made a squeaking/scraping noise against the floor, Jackson shouted "tooted!" If it all weren't so funny, I would have been embarrassed.
My three best guys.My dad and Patty gave Jackson a few small toys to keep him entertained during dinner, but the poppers that they gave him as we were leaving were definitely the hit.
You'd never guess that he had a chocolate covered strawberry on the ride home, would you?
This morning, I was getting ready for church when Ben got Jackson out of bed and was in the middle of blow drying my hair when he ran in, gave me a big hug around my knees, and said "Happy Mother's Day, Mommy." It definitely wasn't something he came up with on his own, but it was incredibly sweet nonetheless.
After church, we went on a family walk to see the creek and to do a little lizard hunting.
Apparently in addition to it being Mother's Day, it was also Lizard's Day today because we ended up seeing somewhere between 5 and 10 of them. Jackson was super excited each time that we would find one, and at one point, Ben said "maybe we should start looking for a million dollars instead".
After-lunchtime entertainment. These boys come up with the craziest of ideas.
After Jackson's nap, we went over to Kyle and Steve's house for dinner and to celebrate both my mom and Kyle.
Kyle and her boys.
Two of my favorite people -- the one that made me a mom and the one that taught me how to be one.
His grin says it all.
And although I didn't get a picture of it, we also found a lizard at Pops and Memaw's house, and Ben was even able to catch it. Jackson was busying digging in the sandbox, but when Ben brought it over to show him, he was in complete awe and responded with "oh Daddy...tiny lizard...sooo cute."
It really was such a fun evening, and as much as I enjoyed it, I think Jackson had even more fun than I did. He didn't seem to mind being the center of attention one bit and loved having so many of his favorite people in the same place at once -- oh, and the ice cream cone that he got for eating so much of his dinner, too.
And as if all of that weren't exciting enough, Jackson also got to go on his very first ride in Pops' jeep. My mom and I went, too, and Steve just drove us around in the neighborhood, but Jackson absolutely loved it.
This kid really is the best thing that ever happened to me, and I love being his mom.
