Unfortunately the afternoon was yet another rainy one, so we did our best to entertain ourselves inside {Jackson was not quite ready to wake up and wanted to be wherever I was...even if it meant laying in the middle of the kitchen} and then sat outside for a little bit just watching the rain and waiting for Ben to get home.
My lap has so much going on these days -- working on the laptop, growing a baby, holding a toddler, and propping up an iPad.
Yesterday morning, I realized that we were just about out of dog food, so after feeding Annie and Amos leftover chicken tenders for breakfast, we headed to the grocery store.
That fried greasy goodness definitely wasn't doing anything to help with their diet, but thankfully they didn't seem to mind the break.
No trip to HEB is complete without a stop at the Buddy Bucks machine.Later that morning, we headed to Pease Park. Unfortunately, the playground was still closed due to the recent storm, but Jackson had a great time digging in the freshly laid mulch. On a side note, I'm really hoping that his fake smile significantly improves over the next few years because I can almost guarantee that his future wife will be seriously disappointed if this is the look that he gives her every time that she pulls out a camera.
Thankfully, it didn't take long in the hot Texas sun for Jackson to realize that the splash pad was where it was at, and after watching him today, I'm pretty sure he is going to love the splash pads even more this summer than he did last year. He had a great time running around and filling up his bucket so that he could then pour it on me or in my direction...which this hot and sweaty pregnant girl did not mind in the slightest.
Yesterday evening, we ate pizza on the front porch while Jackson played outside. Tyler and Megan came over to say "hi" and had a basketball with them, so of course, Jackson wanted to pull his goal out so that they could play some ball together. Those two kids never cease to amaze me when it comes to their sweetness, and of course, Jackson loved every minute of getting to play with the big kids.
This morning, we met up with some of our friends from Sunday School at Central Market for a play date. Thankfully the playground is now open, but unfortunately, they lost a couple of trees and a lot of branches that kept the playground so shady. To say that it was hot out there would be a serious understatement. Jackson didn't seem to mind and enjoyed watching a skid steer move dirt around {behind nothing but a single strip of caution tape} and even did a little bit of digging himself. I, on the other hand, was sweating like a pig, and as I told all of the other moms, I'm fairly certain that I won't be making any new friends at the park this summer.
Today's afternoon snack consisted of a homegrown cucumber out of Kyle and Steve's garden that was nothing less than amazing. I tried to convince Jackson to share it with me, but after sucking the ranch off, he handed the cucumber back to me and said "gross". Oh well...more for me.
Our little basketball star sporting quite the fashion statement. He was not the least bit interested in putting pants on before going outside but insisted on accessorizing with a random Michael Jordan sweatband that was just "like Megan's" from the night before.
I love hanging out with my boys. They're loud, wild, crazy, and messy, and I wouldn't have it any other way.
Well, except for maybe the messy part. Come to think of it, maybe I should start praying daily that baby brother is a neat freak like me.
