This past weekend, Ben went to Port Aransas to go deep sea fishing as part of Brad's (a friend from high school) bachelor party. This was Ben's first time to go deep sea fishing, and unfortunately, it didn't go as well as planned. After only getting about 4 hours of sleep, the guys set out early Saturday morning. The boat captain warned them before they left that it might not be the best day to go out due to the stormy weather, but they went anyways. Unfortunately, out of all 10 guys, not a single one of them caught anything, and it pretty much rained the whole 10 hours that they were out there. Ben took his camera with him, and after showing me several videos that he had taken of the huge waves that they battled and his best friend Garrett hanging over the side of the boat, I asked him if he had taken any pictures of the group. He said that he hadn't, and his excuse was that half of the guys were throwing up and the other half were trying not to. I'm still not sure if that's just an excuse or not, but either way, I'm pretty sure that Ben will not be going on another deep sea fishing trip for a long, long time.
I, on the other hand, had a wonderful weekend. Since Ben was out of town, I decided to fill the weekend with all sorts of girly things and had a great time doing all of it.
On Friday, I took the day off from work so that I could spend it with my mom who was on Spring Break. She took me to lunch at La Madeleine, and we spent the majority of the day shopping. We did pretty well -- I got 4 shirts, a dress, and 2 pairs of shoes, and my mom got a couple of things, too. We had a great time catching up, laughing, and finding some crazy good deals. It is because of her honesty and our shared love for the thrill of the hunt that she will always be my favorite shopping partner! Plus, it doesn't hurt that she bought me a couple of things, too. :) When I got home that evening, I ate some leftovers and was later invited to go to Carrabba's with Jason, Cheryl, and Jason's sister Clarissa. Since I had already eaten, I decided to just go just for dessert, and I am so glad that I did. We had a great time, and the cannolis were delicious! That night I watched "The Time Traveler's Wife" in bed before going to sleep. It was a good movie, but it didn't quite live up to my expectations. I mean -- it was a love story, and I didn't cry even once! I think I had a hard time getting over the whole time traveling part of it, but it was cute nonetheless.
On Saturday, I slept in and then went to Milk & Honey Day Spa to use my gift card. I had made appointments for a massage, a pedicure, and a haircut, and everything was wonderful. Molly (Ben's cousin's wife) decided to schedule a pedicure (and manicure) at the same time as mine, and we had a great time catching up while getting our feet pampered. Afterward, we decided to get something to eat and after walking around in the freezing cold wind for quite some time, we finally found a place that was open and still serving food. We had a great time eating and drinking wine at La Taverna, and before we knew, we had been there for almost 3 hours! As we were getting up to leave, our waiter said, "Wow -- I guess y'all had a lot to talk about." Haha...definite understatement. :) After going to Sprouts and renting a couple of movies, I headed home. That night I watched both "Julie & Julia" and "New In Town". Overall, both movies were very cute and very girly. After going to sleep, my phone rang at about 2 o'clock in the morning. It was Ben, and as soon as I realized what time it was, I immediately thought that something was wrong. However, when I answered it, Ben simply said, "Do you want to come answer the door for me?" What a wonderful surprise! He wasn't supposed to get home until sometime on Sunday, but he and Garrett had decided to drive home that night after dinner since the rest of the guys were just going back to the hotel to sleep. Unfortunately, I was somewhat of a party pooper since I immediately fell back asleep as soon I let him inside, but after the day that Ben spent on the boat, he was not too far behind me.
On Sunday, we did our best to sleep in, but unfortunately, Annie and Amos decided to get up before 9 o'clock that morning. We spent most of the afternoon just laying around at the house and doing a little bit of laundry before heading over to Jason and Cheryl's house for fajitas. The food was amazing, of course, and spending the evening with them was a wonderful ending to a wonderful weekend -- although I think Ben would agree that his weekend might not have been quite as wonderful as mine.
