Shopping & Ethics

I started this blog a little over 5 years ago as a way of documenting our day-to-day life.  The things that I wrote about really weren't all that interesting {except to G and my mom}, but I blogged anyway, which is the reason that it's pretty ironic that now that I have something very interesting to write about {a.k.a. a certain little someone named Jackson}, my blog is almost never up-to-date.  I guess you could say that I have a little, actually a lot, less free time than I used to, but I've decided that in order to keep more up-to-date on the blog, I'm going to need to post more often -- even when I don't have anything specific that seems blog-worthy.  I definitely want to write about our recent trip to San Diego, but in the meantime, here's some of what we've been up to this week.

On Tuesday, my mom and I took Jackson shopping for his baptismal outfit.  We weren't really sure what we were looking for, but we were hoping to find something that wasn't a gown, so we headed down to the outlet mall in San Marcos.  We went to both Hartstrings and Janie & Jack, but unfortunately, we didn't see anything.  Thankfully, my mom asked a salesperson though because Hartstrings did have Christening apparel in the back but didn't keep it out on the floor.  Who'd have thought?  Definitely not me.  They actually had two options.
We ended up going with the second one since we thought it looked a little less girly than the smocked one and a little bit nicer since it was made out of satin as opposed to cotton.  They didn't have his size, but thankfully, they did have one at their store in Grapevine, so my mom went ahead and ordered it over the phone, and it should be here in just a couple of days.

Hanging out in the backseat of the car at the outlet mall is hot even with the AC on when it's 107 degrees outside...
On our way back into Austin, we stopped for lunch at Jason's Deli.  Jackson had fallen asleep in the car and woke up as soon as we got there.  His nap wasn't nearly long enough {which is the reason for the blank stare}, but he was so good. He just sat in his carseat and chewed on his toys {and flirted with all the girls that stopped by to talk to him} while my mom and I ate, and he even let us get an ice cream cone.  He really has turned into such a sweet baby.
Chewing on the spinner toy -- Jackson's favorite thing to do in his jumper
On Thursday, Jackson and I took a walk around the neighborhood that morning...
....and then at lunch, I had to go up to work to attend a continuing education presentation on ethics, so Ben came home to be with Jackson.  From what I hear, they both enjoyed their one-on-one guy time, but apparently they were both too cool to smile in the picture that they sent me.
And ignore the beer bottle in the background.  I'll admit that it was one of the first things I noticed, too, but I can promise you that my husband was not day-drinking. ;)  It was actually from the night before, but both of us were just too lazy to walk it outside to the recycle bin.

Later that day, Jackson and I made a trip up to HEB to do some grocery shopping.  With all the recent moving and traveling, it had been awhile since our last trip, so we had quite a few things to buy, but thankfully, Jackson was super content to ride along in the cart and people-watch.
I, on the other hand, did not have the best of grocery shopping experiences.  I had the hardest time finding anything since the HEB near my grandmother's house is not set up like the one that was by ours, and it is so much busier -- I could barely get down the aisles.  I also had the hardest time trying to figure out what to buy since we are currently without a grill or a crockpot.  I mean, seriously, how do you even cook dinner without a grill or a crockpot?  First world problems, I know, but problems nonetheless. ;)

This morning, Jackson woke up in the best mood, and I'm kind of wondering if it had anything to do with the fact that he drank an entire 8-ounce bottle immediately after nursing last night before going to bed.  Needless to say, his diaper was unable to hold it all in over night, but he was all smiles this morning, so it was worth it.
Today, we went to the mall with my mom in search of some shoes for Jackson to wear at his baptism.  Again, we weren't really sure what we were looking for {other than something white}, but we found the cutest shoes at Dillards.  They're satin, and they even have a cross embroidered on them -- perfect!
Since we were able to find his shoes so quickly, my mom and I decided to do a little shopping for ourselves, too, and I ended up getting 3 shirts for super cheap, and today was the first day of the tax-free weekend, so I saved some money there, too!  Again, Jackson was so good.  He just rode around in his stroller, chewed on his toys, and people-watched.

Grabbing his feet and kicking his legs -- Jackson's preferred shopping position
He did take a little nap, but it really wasn't very long.  I thought he would crash just as soon as we got home, but he just laid in his crib talking to himself, so I finally got him out, and now he's just hanging out in his swing.
As you can see, Jackson has just about grown out of this thing.  He still loves it, so hopefully we can squeeze him in it for another couple of weeks, but at the rate that he's growing, he'll be at the weight limit {25 pounds} in no time.  It's hard to believe that my baby was ever this small.
We don't have a whole lot planned for this weekend, but considering Jackson has napped so little and Ben had to go into work at about 2 o'clock this morning, I do know that we will be going to bed early.  I'm not gonna lie though -- that sounds pretty awesome to me, too.  This girls loves her sleep and definitely doesn't get nearly as much as she used to.
