A Long Weekend with Dad {a.k.a. Our Favorite!}

It turns out that the perk to having your husband out of town all week for work is that you're able to easily talk him into taking Friday off for a long 3-day weekend.  One of the main reasons that Ben took off was that he was also supposed to go to Dallas on Saturday to participate in Habitat for Humanity, but it got rained out, so Jackson and I got to have one of our very favorite people home with us for three days in a row, which is pretty much awesome!

On Friday, we decided to take Jackson to the rodeo to see all of the animals.  It was supposed to rain that morning and looked like it was going to start at any moment, but thankfully it held off and just kept the crowds away instead.  Thankfully, Jackson loved the rodeo even more this year than he did last year.

We got there just in time for the dog show.  I originally sat us about halfway up in the bleachers, but Jackson insisted that we move "down" to be closer and loved watching the dogs run around and catch frisbees.
The pig races were a hit, too.  Jackson sat there and watched each race so intently {the bag of popcorn helped, of course}, and he thought it was hilarious when the one pig came in dead last {poor Aggies}.
After the pig races, we got to meet the rodeo mascot, and as soon as we approached him, Jackson immediately started telling him his "garbage truck...pizza...down..." story.  Seriously, I'm starting to think he's the guy at the party that has only one good story, so he just keeps telling it over and over again.  Thankfully he's cute, so he can get away with it.
We also stopped by the petting zoo, which Jackson thought was both fun and a little intimidating.  He was excited to feed them the ice cream cone full of oats, but the animals were equally excited, which caused them to be just a little overbearing.
"This John Deere tractor is cool and all...
...but I'd finish a lot faster if I just ran."
Another one of Jackson's favorite parts of the rodeo was this booth selling wooden guns.
We tried to explain to him that these toys were for the bigger boys, but the guy selling them assured us that he had a cross bow just his size.  Um, thanks, but no thanks.  We're not really looking to buy a cross bow for our two-year-old, but that didn't mean we didn't try it out.
Jackson pointed to this rodeo decoration and said "mill...broken".  Seriously, where does he learn this stuff?
The livestock that was there for show that day were the pigs, and they were EVERYWHERE.  Jackson loved watching all of the teenage kids lead their huge pigs around with their little whips, and he especially loved watching them poop as they walked around.  His exact words were "pig...poopoo...funny", and then he'd crack up laughing.
The baby chicks were also a hit...
...as was the funnel cake that we bought on our way out.
I pinched a few pieces off for him so that they could cool, and he kept asking for more even before he finished what was on his plate in fear that he wouldn't get his fair share.  What can I say...funnel cakes are one of my favorites, too.
Doing my best to keep him awake on the ride home.
That night, we met up with our neighbors for dinner at Man Bites Dog, which is the hot dog restaurant that the Allens own and have decided to shut down.  Jackson was so excited that a couple of his favorites were there and had fun introducing Lila and "Cake" {a.k.a. Kate} to "Room on the Broom" and eating the majority of their tater tots.
On Saturday, Ben and Jackson went to Round Rock to spend the morning with Ben's parents, and I spent the morning running errands all by myself.  And let me tell you, it was just as magnificent as it sounds.  I didn't have anything too exciting on my shopping list -- just a few random things here and there, but when you don't have a toddler and all of his belongings to juggle, you even have the option of picking up a chai latte to keep you company.  Pure bliss, I tell you!
Super excited about this random find that I picked up for Jackson's Easter basket.
After Jackson's nap, Aunt Holly and Uncle Nelson stopped by to play for a bit.  He was super excited to see them, but he obviously was not in the mood for any picture-taking.
Family party in the teepee.  Jackson insisted that both "Daddy, in" and "Mommy, in" -- and who can say "no" to that?
That evening, we went to dinner at Pinthouse Pizza, and thankfully, we remembered to bring the iPad.
The iPad: enabling families to enjoy dinner out of the house since 2010.
In other news, we also found out this weekend that Annie needs to lose 17 pounds {!!!}.  And if that doesn't sound like a lot to you, just know that she only weights 42 pounds total, so she essentially needs to lose over 40% of her body weight.
Poor girl -- we knew she needed to lose some, but we didn't quite realize how bad it had gotten.  She's always been big boned {to put it politely}, but Jackson definitely doesn't help the issue, which I'm guessing why it's gotten a little out of hand.  He loves to feed her -- whether it's pieces of his food, extra dog food, or a few treats here and there -- and she loves it just as much as he does.
The vet suggested that we cut back on their food {Amos needs to lose 5 pounds, too}, and we're also going to try to do better about taking them on more regular walks.  That being said though, the next pictures alone are a perfect example of why Annie has so much more to lose than Amos -- one of them is always pulling to go faster while the other is always pulling to stop, but I won't name names.
On Sunday, we spent the morning at church and then got together with Ben's family when Jackson got up from his nap.  The party was somewhat of a condo-warming party for Ben's cousin Maria and a going-away party for the O'Connells.  Kevin and Molly recently decided to move back to Ohio to be closer to their families, and although we will miss them and their boys dearly, we know just how nice is to have grandparents {and other family members} close by, so we're super excited for them, too.
Maria told us to bring our swimsuits in case anyone wanted to swim.  We weren't sure what the water temperature situation would be like, but we brought the boys' suits just in case.  The water was pretty cold, but of course, they wanted to get in, and thankfully we remembered to bring Ben and Kevin's suits and "accidentally" forget our own, so that the dads could join them.
Despite the cold water, the first swim of the season was definitely a hit!
On the way home tonight, Uncle Josh showed Jackson how to pick a flower for me, which quickly turned into him picking one for each girl that was there.  He's only 2, and he already knows the way to a woman's heart.
And it's safe to say that this little goofball and his dad have all of mine.
Such a fun long weekend with my two favorite boys!
