Eating Cookies & Tossing Them

Thankfully we got outside quite a bit in last week's beautiful weather because this week has looked quite a bit different.  A cold front came through this past Sunday, and now it is COLD.  And not just Texas cold...but real cold...as in freezing temperatures cold.  And I'm already tired of it and ready for some warmer weather.  I've always loved our mild Texas winters, but now that I have a toddler, I have come to appreciate them even more.  So if anyone knows how to get in touch with Mother Nature directly, please let her know that Jackson and I are ready to have our Texas winter back and to play outside again.

On Monday night, Ben had to go to dinner at Capitol City Grille for work, so it was just me and Mr. Bucket.  I was somewhat envious -- especially when Jackson didn't want to go down for the night.  He threw everything out of his crib and even took off all of his clothes AND his diaper.  I eventually ended up rocking him to sleep, and as much as I would have loved to have been eating a fancy dinner, I was exactly where I wanted to be -- rocking my sweet baby while kissing the top of his head -- because I know that one day, he won't be a baby anymore, and he won't be the least bit interested in me rocking him...or kissing him.
In case you can't tell, this is "hiding".
Ben promised to come home with dessert, and he definitely delivered.  Warm cookies in bed...don't mind if I do!
The next morning, Jackson was hiding from me when I went in to get him out of bed, and I was surprised in more ways than one.
Unfortunately, Sportball was cancelled due to potential icy conditions, so we spent the morning just hanging out at the house, doing a little drumming, and pouring his cheerio/raisin/goldfish mix from one measuring cup to the next.
Apparently this truck needs a bigger bed.
I snapped this picture right before he asked me for "mo syup" {a.k.a. more syrup}.  Um...I don't think so.
Later that morning when we realized that it wasn't icy out {but just cold}, we made a trip to the mall to make a few returns and to let Jackson run around.  Jackson insisted that we bring his train lunch box filled with toy trains, two good-sized bulldozer and excavator toys, a broom, a light saber, and his blanket with us, but thankfully I was somehow able to convince him to leave all of it in the car.
I decided after/during this trip that he's not my favorite shopping buddy.  Don't get me wrong...he's definitely entertaining, but I was barely able to handle just the returns and little bit of window shopping.
This week, Jackson also found his HEB Buddy Bucks rewards book for the first time, and as he saw the page of stickers that he's collected, his face lit up, and he immediately began pulling all of them off to put on his hands instead.
Another evening event for Ben = another round of cookies.  Jackson was super excited.
And that night, before bed, Corduroy turned on the nightlight, and Jackson was just a little proud.
I wore a sweater to work this week that I've never worn before.  As I was changing Jackson's diaper before work, he pointed to the design towards the bottom and said in his most southern accent "woooow", and then when I stood him up, he sniffed the "flowers" just below the neckline.  It was so funny that I texted Ben about it when I got to the office along with a selfie so that he would know what I was talking about.  His response?  "Merry Christmas".  Between his comment and Jackson smelling my chest, this might just be the first AND last time that I ever wear this sweater.
On Wednesday evening, Jackson was shivering and kept yawning and wasn't interested in eating anything for dinner.  We even offered a rice cake, goldfish, raisins, and we knew for sure that he wasn't feeling well when he turned down a cookie.  And not long after that, he threw up...all over me.  He spent the rest of the evening soaking in the tub with Ben and then watching shows on the iPad.  While cleaning up the kitchen and the rest of the house, I kept stopping in to check on them, and one of those times, Jackson reached out to me and then threw up all over me again.  Needless to say, I got the short end of the stick that night, but thankfully he woke up feeling so much better that next morning.
On Thursday, we decided to take it easy at the house.  My mom came over that morning to watch Jackson so that I could get a haircut and go to a doctor's appointment sans toddler, and that afternoon, Jackson took a great nap.  Unfortunately I've recently gotten into a bad habit during Jackson's nap.  A couple months ago, Ben and I realized that we are able to roast marshmallows on our electric stovestop, and s'mores have become one of my most favorite naptime treats.  And I'd be lying if I didn't admit that I usually have two -- because why would I bother putting the other half of the candy bar back into the pantry when I can eat it instead?
I saw this meme online the other day and could totally relate.
That night while cooking dinner, I went into Jackson's room to see what all the commotion was and found Jackson jumping and Ben hiding.
These 2 boys are quite the duo.
That evening, Cheryl and I went out for dessert at Chez Zee -- because as much as we love our own and each other's husbands and kids, it is only without them that we are capable of truly catching up and talking for 3 hours without skipping a beat.  As Jason put it, the two of us were meant to be, and I agree.  Haha.  And while I was away, the boy fun continued at home.  See-food, anyone?  Banana see-food to be exact.
Big boys who go potty get rewarded with suckers.
And, of course, checking the color of your tongue is one of the best parts of eating a sucker.
On Friday morning, we got together with Molly and the boys.  I tried to explain to Jackson that they had plenty of toys over at their house, too, but he insisted that we bring everything with us but the kitchen sink.
It had been awhile since we got the boys together, and they had so much fun.  Jackson thought that everything that Charlie did was absolutely hilarious, and of course, Charlie loved that.  He kept Jackson entertained with all sorts of crazy stunts, which Jackson did his best to imitate, of course, and Rory joined in on the fun more often than not,  too.  Gone are mine and Molly's days of lounging by the pool with drinks in hand...having an uninterrupted conversation.  The morning was exhausting, loud, messy, and lots and lots of fun.
I call this one "Charlie and his two biggest fans".
Saturday was another bad weather day, so we pulled out the tent and tunnel to do our best at wearing him out without taking him outside.
Watch out for the kiss monster!
Of course, Jackson insisted on filling the tent with just about every toy he owns -- and specifically his 3 favorite trucks: the dump truck, excavator, and bulldozer.
A surprise visit from Uncle Duke who was in town from Ohio and Aunt Kim.
My dad and Patty came by for a visit later that morning, and despite the proximity to naptime and the fact that Jackson was getting just a bit little stir crazy, he still did a great job at hamming it up.
Just telling Jackson that we can't go outside post-nap because of the cold rain isn't enough...he has to "see" it.
Saturday evening I went out with some girls from Stroller Strides so the boys headed to Ben's parents house.
"We're off to Memaw's!"
While the boys were getting into all sorts of trouble at Pops and Grandma's house, we went to dinner at Cafe Blue and then to see "50 Shades of Grey".  I was a little nervous about seeing the movie because of all of the crazy things that I had heard about it, but thankfully it wasn't as horrible as I thought it might be.  It definitely wasn't one of my favorites though, but at least now I know what everyone has been talking about for the past couple of years and didn't have to find the time to read a huge fat book in order to figure it out.
On my way home that night, I found out that Jackson had started throwing up that evening and was sick again, so instead of going to church, we spent the morning snuggled up on the couch watching cartoons.
Ben's family also came over for a quick visit, but Jackson still wasn't feeling 100%, so his lunch of choice consisted of "pop-cun" {popcorn} and "bubby" {peanut butter}.
Although it didn't take him long to realize that a spoon is a much more effective way to eat it.
Rocking the sweet boy and almost every single one of his "stuffies" at naptime.
The original plan was to take Jackson to go to the mall tonight to run around and get his big boy furniture, but he woke up not wanting to go.  He instead wanted to watch TV and fill our bed with muffin crumbs {the things he gets away with when he's not feeling well}, but because I had a coupon that expired today, Ben volunteered to take his truck and go to Pottery Barn Kids ALL BY HIMSELF.  And THAT, ladies and gentlemen, is how you know he's a good dad and loves this cutie more than anything.
Another bag of popcorn...which was apparently for a party that I had no idea that we were having.
This cold weather always makes me anxious to get in bed and under the covers even earlier than normal.  Thankfully we all got to bed at a reasonable hour tonight and as soon as I hit "publish" on this blog post, I'm headed to sleep and dreaming of a week that is hopefully filled with better weather, a healthier kid, and in terms of cookies -- more of the eating variety and much less of the tossing kind!
