Weekends around here are starting to look more or less the same. Time with family, a sleepover at Pops and Memaw's house, a date night, some swimming, church, and lots of outdoor fun...but as the saying goes, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
On Friday, my mom and I took the boys to Zilker Park. It had been awhile since we had been there, and we had a great time despite the heat and humidity. Of course, our first stop was at the sand to do a little bit of digging, and after playing on the playground for a good bit, Jackson decided that he was up for the long walk down the trail to feed the ducks. It's about half a mile each way, so I wasn't sure if we'd really make it or not, but thankfully, we did. Unfortunately, the ducks were nowhere to be found, but both the pigeons and the turtles were quite hungry, so we fed them instead.
A trip to feed the ducks is not complete without a stop at mine and Jackson's favorite spot -- Lou Neff Point. The water wasn't the prettiest that day, but the view was still gorgeous.
That night, Jackson went to Round Rock for his sleepover, and the rest of us went to Banger's on Rainey Street with a few other couples from our Sunday School class. We had heard that their beer menu was impressive, and it definitely was, but because they were remodeling their kitchen and cooking in a temporary trailer, the only dinner option was sausage. Thankfully, they were pretty delicious though. Unfortunately, Dean was a little fussier than normal and not quite as happy to be there as the rest of us, but the outdoor lighting seemed to keep him entertained while the guys talked football and the girls talked parenting. That night, we also tried out a new on-demand valet service called Luxe. Using their app, they send someone to pick your car up and then bring it back to you whenever you're ready for it. I was a little apprehensive about the whole thing {so how do we know that this random guy is not going to just drive off with our truck and never come back?}, but thankfully our truck magically reappeared at the time that we had requested.
Yesterday afternoon, we headed up to Round Rock to collect our toddler and trade in some baby snuggles for a delicious home-cooked meal.
On our way home, we stopped by Aunt Kim's house to say "hi" and give hugs to Stefani and Jay Mack who were in town from Smithville. While Dean got loved on and passed around like a hot potato, this one went skinny dipping.
The boys also helped Lexi make a sign for Kyle and Steve's house that says something to the affect of "Little Fingers Touch Our Floor...Please Remove Your Shoes at the Door".
Dean was obviously not a fan.
This morning, we went to church, and Jackson went to Sunday School for the very first time. Although the kids don't typically move into that class until they turn three, I had asked if we could see about moving him into it early, mainly because he gets bored being in the nursery for two hours and then starts acting up. Thankfully, he did great in Sunday School, and although he wasn't able to tell us what he learned, he did bring home this adorable craft.
This afternoon, we decided to take the scooters and the stroller down to the boardwalk on Lady Bird Lake. I hadn't been there since Jackson was a baby, and Ben had never been at all, so we were well overdue for a family trip. It was a beautiful day for it, and surprisingly, there weren't that many people out there -- which is a good thing because Jackson had a pretty hard time staying on his side of the bridge.
I figured Jackson would love riding his scooter on the boardwalk, and I was right, but I am so glad that we went on the weekend so that Ben could be there, too. One of my main concerns was being able to keep up, but what I didn't think about was the crushed granite portions of the trail that were somewhat difficult for Jackson to maneuver by himself. Along these stretches, Ben ended up more or less pulling Jackson on his scooter to the next piece of boardwalk, and I can only imagine me trying to do that while also pushing the stroller. Just the thought exhausts me.
A quick break to rehydrate, refuel, and check up on Baby Dean.
Please notice that both Jackson's scooter and helmet are in the exact same position as Ben's. Monkey see, monkey do...and this boy wants to be just like his Daddy.
Neither one of them would pose for a picture, but watching the two of them together is simply the best.
While admiring a family of turtles and pointing out the mommy, daddy, and baby, Jackson responded with "yeah...and there's Memaw Turtle". So sweet. On the way back to the truck, he used just about any excuse to take a break from riding, so when he noticed a slight down slope at one particular spot, he got off so that he could "slide" down instead. Needless to say, the ride back to the truck took about twice as long as it did going out.
Recovering from our family workout at Mandola's with a heavy Italian dinner and ice cream with sprinkles.
Seriously, do weekends/life get any better than this? I don't think so.
