The only thing I love more than the weekend is a holiday weekend, and I'm fairly certain that Jackson would agree. Because more weekend = more Daddy time. And EVERYONE is a fan of that.
I decided to kick off the holiday weekend early and took the boys to City Park {otherwise known as Emma Long Metropolitan Park} on Lake Austin. I invited my mom to join us, and we had a great time. As expected, Jackson spent most of his time digging in the sand, but we did swim for a little bit, too. He also loved watching all of the boats and especially the jet skis go by. My mom and I took turns hanging out in the sun with Jackson and in the shade with Dean, and when the sun went behind the clouds, I even took Dean down to the water for his first dip in the lake. I only got his feet wet, but surprisingly, he seemed to like it. My boys are definitely water babies!
A morning at the lake makes for great afternoon napping...me included.Friday night, Jackson spent the night at Pops and Memaw's house, and we made last minute plans to meet up with Holly and Nelson for dinner and then ice cream.
I know my baby is big, but the angle of this picture certainly isn't doing him any favors.
Yesterday, we took Dean to church for the very first time, and of course, I dressed him in his Sunday best for the occasion. I thought he looked beyond adorable, but his face is telling me that doesn't agree.
We decided to take both boys with us to the worship service, and although they both did great, it turns out that even well-behaved newborns and toddlers aren't that quiet. I did my best to concentrate on the sermon, but there was so much sweetness going on next to me, it wasn't easy. I'm still not sure which part was my favorite -- how Jackson gave Puppy Lovey a bottle {a.k.a. his sippy cup of water} when Dean took his or how he started singing the gospel song "Amen" as soon as we had finished.
We knew these babies would be close in age, but because Dean was born so early, he and Mica are only 3 days apart...and come to find out, there was even a short overlap in mine and Melanie's hospital stays. While Mica already has her beauty queen wave down, Dean decided to go with a more pensive pose.
Nothing guarantees a good nap quite like a trip to a splash pad...even when it's a quick one on the way home from church.
Yesterday evening, we drove out to Elizabeth Milburn Park in Cedar Park to check out what they were calling "Splash Jam". I had read online that there would be inflatables, live music, and carnival rides/games in addition to the pool, and thankfully, it lived up to its hype.
2 out of 6 isn't bad -- especially when you're only two and a half years old! After checking everything out at record speed, Jackson and Pops cooled off in the pool.
We decided to stick around for the fireworks as long as the boys were both doing okay. They didn't start till 8 o'clock {a.k.a. Jackson's bedtime}, so we ate hot dogs and funnel cakes while we waited and then headed to truck so that we could leave as soon as they were over.
We weren't sure what Jackson's reaction would be since he had never seen fireworks before, but he wasn't nearly as impressed as we thought he would be. He spent more time digging in the cooler of ice than he did watching them, so when Dean started to lose it {he was hungry and didn't like the booming noise}, we left in a hurry.
This morning, we went to Deep Eddy Pool with my family. The sun was hot, the water was cold, and we had a great time.
And just because you can never have too much pool/family time, we headed over to Kyle and Steve's house as soon as Jackson was up from his nap.
We also took Dean for his first swim, and although he never smiled, he also never cried, so we can only assume that he loved it.
And, of course, Jackson did, too.
I love this sweet family of mine more than anything. Happy Labor Day, y'all.
